چکیده

Coats' disease is an idiopathic ophthalmic condition caused by a defect in the development of retinal vasculature, characterized by retinal telangiectasis, haemorrhages, intraretinal and subretinal exudation. There are two pathological processes, which are evident in Coats' disease. The first consists of a breakdown of the bloodretinal barrier at the endothelial level, which causes plasma leakage into the vessel wall and thickening of parts of the vessel wall, becoming necrotic and disorganized. The second concerns the presence of abnormal pericytes and endothelial cells in retinal blood vessels, which subsequently degenerate, causing abnormal retinal vasculature and formation of aneurysms, as well as closure of vessels, leading to ischaemia. Here are several treatment modalities, especially laser photocoagulation and cryotherapy for mild to moderate stages of the disease as well as vitrectomy for advanced stages. Today, anti-VEGF agents are used as adjuvant therapy to other treatment options.

iTRAQ-Based Proteomics Investigation of Aqueous Humor from Patients with Coats' Disease

BACKGROUND Coats' disease is an uncommon form of retinal telangiectasis, and the identification of novel proteins that contribute to the development of Coats' disease is useful for improving treatment efficacy. Proteomic techniques have been used to study many eye diseases; however, few studies have used proteomics to study the development of Coats' disease. METHODS Isobaric tagging for relat...

Fluorescein Angiographic Abnormalities in the Contralateral Eye with Normal Fundus in Children with Unilateral Coats' Disease

PURPOSE We report the detection of peripheral retinal vascular abnormalities in the fellow eye with normal fundus in children with unilateral Coats' disease. METHODS The clinical records of patients diagnosed with Coats' disease were retrospectively reviewed. We recorded the subjects' characteristics and obtained fundus photography and fluorescein angiography (FA) images. The main outcome mea...

cur within a subretinal mass in Coats disease. To our knowledge, this is the first report of intraretinal calcification in Coats disease. Intraretinal calcification classically occurs in retinoblastoma; however, it may also be detected in retinocytoma, tuberous sclerosis, and epiretinal membranes. This case reinforces the importance of a complete ophthalmic history, examination, and ancillary t...

Intraretinal calcification and osseous metaplasia in coats disease.

We report a case of Coats disease in a 9-year-old boy who had a profound visual deficit and increasing pain in his right eye. Funduscopic examination revealed a complex, exudative retinal detachment with a subretinal mass and peripheral retinal telangiectasis. B-scan ultrasonography revealed a heterogeneously echogenic subretinal mass with several highly reflective foci consistent with calcific...
